Art Basel 2019
In December 2019 I had the amazing honor of being invited to participate in the first South Asian art display at Art Basel Miami. Curated by Product of Culture my work was displayed alongside artists such as Hafsa Khan, Neha Assar, Johnny Ganta, Fatima Baig, Ehsaan Mesghali, Sudeepti Tucker, and Amara Sikander.
Product of Culture is on a mission to unite the South Asian community (diaspora + immigrant) by championing artists, creatives and innovators to share their art and tell their stories in spaces systematically not built for us. While everyone is hyping diversity, they’re creating inclusion.
Seeing a lack of representation of South Asian art at one of the world’s biggest art events, this pop up style display was an introduction to the diversity of our voices and our vibrant community.
Combined with music, drinks, and great conversation, POC created a contemporary space to talk about our art with people from all walks of life.
The best part was being able to design my own space within the event. Each artist was given their own cabana to get creative with, so I used my display to combine physical pieces with draped textiles. I brought some of my larger canvases to create the feel of a gallery within a small space. I also showcased a combination of prints with smaller canvas studies so guests could experience the details up close and personal.
